1250 years of Wieseck: Festivities and guests of honor inspire the city!
On May 10, 2025, the opening event for the 1250th anniversary of the district took place in the Wieseck community center. The doors of the house were opened from 7:00 p.m., and prominent guests of honor such as the former Hessian Prime Minister Dr. H.C. Volker Bouffier, who acted as the patron, were present. The chairman of the association, Thomas Wagner, opened the celebrations with a warm greeting of the guests and assured that the community would actively support Wieseck in the future. The event was the starting signal for a year -round event program that focuses on the history and culture of Wieseck.
The Musical Frame of the celebration was provided by the Wieseck singing association under the direction of Armin Plewa-Moormann, followed by the Evergreens and the band P.A.C.E. These performances ensured a festive atmosphere that celebrated the proud 1250 years of the community. In his speech, Mayor Frank-Tilo Becher emphasized the early written mention of Wieseck, which is dated 422 years before the city of Gießen. He also addressed dark chapters of local history, such as the major fire of 1646 and the deportation of Jews in 1942, as well as the controversial incorporation to Gießen in 1939.

Interior Minister Roman Poseck conveyed congratulations and awarded the Freiherr-vom-Stein honorary certificate. He emphasized the close connection between Gießen and Wieseck, which has developed over centuries. Mayor Michael Oswald took the opportunity to praise the strength of the club community and wished the present good weather for the upcoming celebrations outdoors.
A special highlight of the event was the presentation of the new chronicle for the 1250th anniversary "Mei Wissich", which of Dr. Herbert Lepper was presented by the home club. This chronicle, available for 22.50 euros, contains documentation over the past decades and reflects the cultural identity and the community of Wieseck.
A look into the future
The Wieseck association is planning numerous events as part of the anniversary, which experience has shown that a wide audience will attract. The new chronicle is published by the Chronicle Committee and represents a comprehensive contemporary testimony of the past 50 years. The chairman Wagner emphasized the importance of this work and encouraged the citizens to participate in the celebrations.
