On Monday, April 28th, a novel mobility project starts in Landau that is devoted to the children's way of school. The bicibus, initiated by the climate tab of the city of Landau and the integrated comprehensive school (IGS) Landau, has the goal of improving the security, climate protection and health of the students on their way to school. This innovative concept not only promotes the environmentally friendly way of school, but also the independence of the children.

The bicibus will be on the road every day, except on Wednesdays, on three fixed routes - Bornheim, Godramstein and Mörzheim. Numerous stops offer the students the opportunity to comfortably get in. It should be emphasized that no registration is required. The children only have to appear on time for the stop and can safely cycle to school in the closed association, which is permitted by the road traffic regulations §68 (2).

The first trip of the bicicibus is accompanied by Mayor Lukas Hartmann, mayor Florian Maier and representatives of the Landau police. IGS teachers will act as accompanying persons to ensure children's safety while driving. Ulrich Roos, the initiator of Bicibuss at the IGS, emphasizes that this project not only promotes the safety of the children, but also contributes to developing more independence.

It is particularly exciting that schoolchildren and parents of other schools are also allowed to ride. This promotes the community and enables different families join in as part of the bicibut. The stops and departure times can be called up by the Landau climate protection portal, which makes planning easier for families.

The Bicibus concept is not new and has already proven itself in Vienna, where since June 2022 several bicibuses have been going to school every day, weekly or monthly on fixed routes. Families meet there at stops to cycle to school. This organized form of cycling not only promotes the fun of cycling, but also prepares the children for the voluntary bicycle test. You will learn to move safely in traffic and expand your cycling skills.

The concept sends a strong signal: the street space belongs to everyone. The visibility of children in road traffic supports the idea of ​​common mobility and contributes to the safety of all road users. Initiatives like these strengthen the self -confidence of the children and integrate cycling as an integral part of their everyday life.
