Bomb from World War II successfully defused in Duisburg!
On April 29, 2025, an American ten-century bomb from the Second World War was successfully defused in Duisburg-Meiderich. The dud was discovered during renovation work on home management on Alsenstrasse. The defusing was a major challenge that mobilized around 140 emergency services from the police, regulatory office and aid organizations.
The bomb had to be uncovered with a suction excavator, which led to hours of delays. Originally, the defusing was planned for 9 p.m., but ultimately only closed at 0:59 a.m. on Tuesday, followed by the all -clear shortly before 1 a.m. Around 5000 people were affected by the evacuations that came into force shortly after the bomb was found.
evacuation measures and support
The evacuation included a zone of 600 meters around the site, which meant that many residents had to leave their apartments. A lounge was set up in the Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibnitz comprehensive school for the people concerned, but this was only used by around 180 residents. In addition, around 50 ambulances were required because some of the people concerned needed support.
The water supply in the area also had to be parked temporarily to ensure safety during defusing. The urban siren and the Nina app kept the residents up to date on the progress of defusing and informed about the all-clear.
The successful defusing of the bomb was a relief for the residents and the emergency services, who were able to return to their houses peacefully. These events warn of the still existing risks that run out of non -detonated relics of war and show the importance of well -organized emergency management in such situations.
