Brand alarm in the concert: Kasalla show ends abruptly in Cologne!
On Sunday evening, April 6, 2025, a concert of the popular Kölschrock-Band Kasalla abruptly interrupted when a fire broke out in the building. At around 9:23 p.m. the fire alarm triggered the alarm and asked the approximately 1,400 guests to leave the building via the nearest exits.
The fire department's head of operations, Andreas Reifferscheidt, reported on a detected smoke development that penetrated from a storage room in the basement. On the way to the site, the firefighters realized that poet smoke flowed from the basement area. In order to be able to start quickly with the extinguishing work, further fire trucks were requested, while the firefighters had to proceed under heavy respiratory protection.
evacuation without injuries
Thanks to the rapid reaction of the fire brigade and the activation of the alarm system, everyone present could be safely evacuated. The audience and the band remained intact, while the fire brigade took care of the fire that had broken out in a laundry room in which numerous objects were stored. Despite considerable heat and the bad smoke insurgence possibilities, the emergency services managed to prevent the spread of the flames.
The concert had to be canceled due to the situation. The operator of the town hall, Daniel Rabe, was on site, but was currently unable to provide any information about the amount of the damage or the exact cause of the fire. The concert should be repeated at a later date, while the examinations are going on the cause of the fire.
background to the city hall
The Cologne-Mülheim town hall has been an important venue since its opening in 1963 and regularly attracts large crowds. The challenges of the event organization and fire protection show up in a situation like this, in which the security of guests and artists has top priority. The use of the fire brigade and the smooth interaction of the evacuation processes are crucial in such moments.
The fire brigade will continue to determine the cause of the fire to clarify what led to the incident and how similar situations can be prevented in the future. Reporting on the incident is supplemented by the perspective of the organizers, who could give valuable findings in order to improve security in public events. Further information is available in detailed lectures on preventive fire protection, such as shown here
