Bruno van Gelderen: From the farm to life in the financial jungle!
On March 18, 2025, the new book by Ulrich Peltzer with the title "The Ernst des Lebens" will be presented. This event takes place in cooperation with the Literaturbüro NRW and the Freundeskreis der Stadtbücheren e.V. in the city window of the central library in Düsseldorf. Michael Serrer from the Literature Bureau NRW.
In his latest work, Peltzer takes a deep look at the life of Bruno van Gelderen, who, as CFO of a questionable investment company, embodies the main character of the novel. Growing up on a farm on the Lower Rhine, van Gelderen moved to Berlin in the 1990s. Here his life develops into an undecided existence shaped by coincidences, setbacks and criminal clashes.
from the province to the financial world
Bruno van Geldernen symbolically stands for an antihero who tries to find its place in the financial world without clear goals or ambitions. He initially denies his livelihood through dubious business, which finally contributed a two to three-year prison sentence. After his release, he receives a job at the investment company "Merkur-Invest", which Guram Kobiashvili is headed. This figure, which is involved in dark shops, ensures an interesting dynamic in the course of the narrative.
in "The seriousness of life" Peltzer addresses central questions such as the meaning of life and the meaning of money. The presentation is particularly impressive, since Peltzer makes the inner voice of van Gelderens audible to readers, while other characters only speak indirectly. The nuances of the financial world are extensively illuminated-terms such as "underlying" and "bond-stripping" are introduced to create a deeper understanding of the complex mechanisms of the industry.
critical reflection on finance
The representation of financial psychology in Peltzer's work is particularly important. The naivety of customers is discussed here, which often willingly ignore risks. These changes of perspective are not only important for literary analysis, they also reflect current reflections on financial uncertainties in our society, as Morgan Housel, for example, also addresses in his writings. Housel emphasizes the need to take risks in the financial sector, but he also warns of extreme risks.
Peltzer's novel, with its 301 pages, is published by S. Fischer, Frankfurt am Main, and is expected to be published in 2024. By combining Peltzer's experience in writing together with the presentation of characters that run in an often unpredictable financial world, the reader is invited to think about his own relationship to money and life.
