BUND Cologne: Environmental impulses for local elections 2025!

On January 31, 2025, the BUND for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) will hold a press conference in Consilium, Rathausplatz 1 in Cologne. The event begins at 11:00 a.m. and brings together experts from local politics to inform about important topics and suggestions about the upcoming local elections. Among the participants are Dr. Helmut Röscheisen, board member of the Cologne district group, and Jörg Frank, expert in local politics. BUND reports that the district group reports will develop that should serve the democratic parties as impulses for their election programs.

The recommendations of the BUND district group Cologne will be sent to the top of the parties and factions represented in the Council at the beginning of the next week. The aim is to create a connection between environmental policy and social cohesion in Cologne. The key points of the proposals are the topics of the construction turnaround, the stop of the loss of biological diversity, municipal climate protection and mobility transition as well as the necessary cooperation with civil society.

election campaign with an ecological perspective

In view of the Bundestag election, which is to be preferred to February 23, the federal government emphasizes the importance of nature, environmental and climate protection in the election campaign. In a report by BUND it is pointed out that in the past there have already been success in the nuclear phase-out and the expansion of renewable energies. Nevertheless, the implementation of protective measures remains a controversial topic that is often perceived as unfair and offers the reason for discourse.

The environmental policy demands include the need to enable building renovations without the warm rents increasing. The federal government calls for the abolition of environmentally harmful privileges and the introduction of a social ticket for local public transport. A socially just agricultural turnaround is also on the agenda to appropriately reward farmers who are committed to protective measures.

climate protection as a task for society as a whole

The challenges in climate protection are diverse and require massive efforts at national, European and international level. Progresses such as the reduction in coal use and the expansion of renewable energies have been achieved, but future climate policy remains a central theme of the upcoming legislative period. This is also evident in the analysis of Climate policy through the climate alliance , which emphasizes that every tenth degree is crucial for the quality of life.

In this context, the federal government advocates that the next federal government consistently continues the ambitious climate policy and leads a dialogue in exchange with civil society. This should help to understand climate protection as a challenge for society as a whole and to take effective measures to modernize them in the areas of traffic and buildings.
