Bundesliga TV rights 2025/26 to 2028/29: Who transfers what?

On May 3, 2025, football fans in Germany are facing an exciting time. Borussia Dortmund, one of the most successful clubs in the Bundesliga, has an active season in both the Bundesliga and in the club world championship 2025. The next competitive date is already certain: On May 11th they will meet Bayer Leverkusen, this duel will be broadcast live at DAZN at 3:30 p.m. The subsequent home game against Holstein Kiel on May 17th also has an kick -off at 3:30 p.m.

The broadcast of the Bundesliga games is a central topic for fans. Most of the Bundesliga games are still broadcast by Sky, especially all Saturday games at 3:30 p.m. and the top game at 6:30 p.m. In the meantime, DAZN shows the games on Friday and the games on Sunday. In addition, some games are broadcast on Free TV at Sat.1, including the opening game and the relegation.

TV broadcasts in detail

The current television broadcasts show that the ARD sports show will present the highlights at 6:30 p.m. at 6:30 p.m., while the ZDF sports studio summarizes the Saturday games at 11 p.m. Sport1 offers the summaries on Sunday morning. Also in the Champions League there is the main broadcaster where the majority of the games are shown, while some selected games are available on Tuesdays at Amazon Prime. The final of the Champions League will take place on May 31, 2025 on ZDF.

The DFB Cup is also an important element in the German football calendar. Almost all games are broadcast by Sky, but some are also shown on Free TV at ARD and ZDF, including the final. The transmission rights for the most important competitions are clearly distributed:

competition Transmission
Bundesliga sky, dazn, satell.1
champions League dazn, Amazon Prime, ZDF
DFB Cup sky, ARD, ZDF

A look into the future shows that comprehensive changes in media reporting are planned from the 2025/26 season. The DFL German Football League re -awarded media rights from 2025 to 2029. Sky will consider the transmission rights for almost 80 % of the Bundesliga games, including all individual games on Saturday afternoon, while DAZN introduces the new conference format of Saturday games and takes over the Sunday games. These changes are seen in response to the unbroken popularity of German professional football, as DFL managing director Steffen Merkel explained. The total income from these media rights is 1.121 billion euros per season, which is an increase of around two percent compared to the previous cycle.

The allocation of rights shows an interesting development on German television. While Sky and DAZN dominate in the Pay TV area, there is also a widening of the offer on free TV. Sat.1 is broadcast live live per season, including the opening games and relegation games, while RTL will show the top game of the 2nd Bundesliga. This restructured award announces a new era for football broadcasts in Germany, as it wants to effectively serve the various spectator interests.
