Café Einhorn in Mülheim closes after 12 years - a piece of history goes!
The popular Café Einhorn in Mülheim has finally closed. The last working day of the restaurant was on Christmas Eve. Owner Brigitte Stoepke, who has been running the café since 2011, has decided to enjoy her retirement and voluntarily gives up the café. The restaurant is now cleared, but remains in family hands. Some regular customers have already taken memories.
The Café Einhorn was converted from the former unicorn pharmacy in 2011, which opened in the Broich district in 1892 and existed for over 100 years. Brigitte Stoepke had equipped the café with ancient pieces of furniture from pharmacy, some of which are supposed to find a new owner. For example, furniture could be sold to a pharmacist in Moers, while the shop in the future is used by Stoepke's son, a civil engineer.
historical charm and culinary diversity
The former unicorn pharmacy was modernized during the conversion to a café, with the historical charm kept. The walls, ceilings, floors and lines of the house were redesigned, while large pharmacists and the counter were preserved. A modern refrigerator has been housed in a former chest of drawers.
Brigitte Stoepke introduced the Einhorn Café together with a friend until she finally ran the restaurant alone. In the café, daily changing homemade cakes and hearty dishes such as soups, stews and tarte flambée were offered. The breakfast map offered creative “pharmacist creations”, while the hot drink card included an original tea selection and Italian coffee specialties. In addition, homemade products such as wild garlic pesto and strawberry jam could be purchased.
