Demo chaos in Bremen: Loud protest against AfD information stand!

On Friday morning, April 25, 2025, the alternative for Germany (AfD) set up an information stand in Delmestraße in Bremen-Neustadt. The stand was part of a planned event that took place on the same day from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Shortly after the structure, however, there was an undelied counter -demonstration, which, according to the police, was up to 220 participants. Those present disrupted the operation of the information stand with loud music and insulted several AfD representatives.

While the police accompanied both events, the operation was made difficult by the behavior of the counter -demonstrators. It was particularly striking that some participants were masked and ignored the police's instructions to remove their masking. This resulted in the police initiated investigations and were drawn up numerous criminal complaints for violations of the meeting law. Several references were also granted. Another occurrence occurred when a participant from a sick person snatched a flag and was then provided by the police.

legal framework conditions

The right to assembly is protected in Germany by various laws and fundamental rights. In particular, the right to freedom of expression (Art. 5 GG) and the right to participate in peaceful meetings (Art. 8 GG) are anchored in the fundamental rights of the German Basic Law. The police have the task of ensuring the protection of this right, even if it gets into conflicts, as is often the case when securing right -wing extremist groups. Müller from the police said that not all forms of protest are allowed and many illegal activities such as insults or assembly laws can touch criminal offenses that are regulated in the §§ 21-30 of the Assembly Act.

During the police operation, the area around Pappelstrasse and several access routes had to be temporarily blocked, which led to considerable traffic disruptions in the area. After the dismantling of the information stand, the counter -demonstration finally dissolved, but not without the police to initiate intensive documentation of the incidents and possible further legal steps.

whether the behavior of the counter -demonstrators, partly considered violent, will have consequences for the future of such events. The police emphasize the importance of non -violent exchange, while at the same time the right to assembly must be maintained. Further information on rights and obligations in demonstrations are on police-beratung.de available.
