The men's singing club Wiedperle: A 101-year heritage silently!

The men's singing club (MGV) Wiedperle from Waldbreitbach has dissolved after almost 101 years of existence. This was announced on April 13, 2025. The choir, which was founded in 1924, has an eventful history and was worn by many vocal members. The dissolution was a topic that has been discussed for some time, which reflects the ongoing challenges for choirs in the region. The secretary of the MGV, Werner Böhm, a long -time member of the association, looks back on numerous experiences and emphasizes the appreciation for the many social and musical events of the choir.

The MGV Wiedperle was founded on June 15, 1924 in the hotel during the 4 seasons and was under the direction of Wilhelm Hardt and the conductor Goswin Zimmermann. Soon after the foundation, the club not only devoted itself to singing, but also planned festive events. In November 1925, it was decided to buy a flag for the choir, which strengthened the cohesion and identity of the association.

insights into the history of the MGV

The chronicle of the MGV Wiedperle contains the new foundation in 1951 after a short interruption after the Second World War. With about 26 singers and led by Wilhelm Hardt, the choir quickly flourished. Numerous public appearances, including singing festivals and concerts, contributed to the popularity of the choir. The strong presence at the Federal Garden Show in Koblenz in 2011, which was a highlight in club history, is particularly worth mentioning

Numerous events have taken place over the years, such as the first singing festival in 1926 or the foundation of a children's choir in 1965. The regular appearances and participation in regional festivals witness to the vitality of the choir over the years. Despite the challenges that many choirs in the region, such as in Kurscheid, the MGV Wiedperle remained a significant part of the cultural community.

The legacy of choral music

The dissolution of the MGV Wiedperle is not only a loss for the members, but also for the cultural landscape. In Germany, the importance of choral singing and its traditions has been emphasized for many years. The “Feingwangen singing museum” foundation, a center for protection and promoting the lay choir system, explains how essential these traditions are for the cultural heritage. Such institutions work to preserve and pass on the knowledge and experiences of choral singing.

The MGV Wiedperle leaves a long and eventful story that will be remembered to all members, friends and the entire community in Waldbreitbach. The cultural and social ties that have arisen through this choir over the decades are one of the most valuable heirs that will remain, even after the curtain has closed for this traditional association.
