German ski jumpers disappoint the start of the year on four hill tour!

The German ski jumpers had to accept a defeat on the four -hill tour at the start of the year. At the New Year's jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on January 1, 2025, Pius Paschke scored ninth with jumps of 129 and 143.5 meters. He lost 23 points to the new overall leader and was unable to keep his already secured place among the best jumpers.

The victory went to the Austrian Daniel Tschofenig, who not only won the entire event with 141.5 and 143 meters, but also took the lead on the tour and the yellow jersey of the World Cup leader. Gregor Deschwanden from Switzerland ended up in second place, while Michael Hayböck, also from Austria, reached third place and set up a new ski jump record in the first round with a jump of 145 meters.

Karl Geiger was the best German jumper and took sixth place with jumps of 137 and 138.5 meters. Andreas Wellinger reached tenth place just behind Paschke after jumping 126.5 meters in the first round and in the second 134 meters. Philipp Raimund and Felix Hoffmann came to places 19 and 25. Markus Eisenbichler, who came back after two years, left out in the first round and did not score points.

Pius Paschke was looking forward to the New Year's jumping on New Year's Eve, but had to find out that its shape was decreasing. The national coach Stefan Horngacher commented on Paschke's performance after the first round in which he could not win his knockout duel against Tate Frantz, but was one of the best losers in the second round. There Paschke was able to improve his placement in the classification with 143.5 meters.

A total of 22,500 spectators were present in sunny weather, including the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder. It is expected that the remaining competitions in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen are expected to be dominated by the Austrian jumpers, such as Sportschau.de reported. However, the German team could not support the positive mood of the fans, which particularly underlines performance, especially for Paschke, who had previously won five World Cup victories this season.
