Direct dialogue with politicians: Speeddating on February 4 in Wiesbaden!

On February 4, 2025, a speed dating with direct candidates for the Bundestag election will take place in the Georg Book House in Wiesbaden. Speeddating not only offers a space for personal questions and concerns, but also focuses on core trade union issues. Moderator Sascha Schmidt will lead the process in which the participants can talk to the direct candidates in a dynamic question-and-answer format. Six politicians from different parties are available, including Dr. Stefan Korbach (CDU), Lucas Schwalbach (FDP) and Nadine Ruf (SPD) to hear the concerns of the citizens and to present their positions on relevant topics.

thematic focus

The central issues that are addressed in the course of the speed dating are the pension stability, collective bargaining, the investments in public infrastructure, education, climate protection and the future of the world of work. These topics are crucial for the next few years and reflect the interests of the employees that are strongly in the focus of the unions. With this event, the DGB would like to draw attention to the relevant claims and concerns of the electorate.

The special format of speed dating is intended to promote the exchange between citizens and politics by enabling direct discussions and creating an open discussion culture. This initiative enables voters to actively contribute to political discourse and to address their questions directly to the future decision -makers. Such formats are particularly important in the current political landscape, since they give the citizens a voice and demand that their concerns are heard.

elections and citizen participation

The importance of citizen participation is underlined by the principles of elections in Germany. According to Article 38 of the Basic Law, the people have the state authority, crucial for a functioning democracy. The five election principles - in general, directly, free, equal and secret - are of central importance for all parliamentary elections in Germany. Every German citizen aged 18 and over has the right to choose what ensures active political participation and is a prerequisite for the legitimacy of political action. These principles are brought back to the fore by the impending elections for the Bundestag election and underline the responsibility of the citizens towards democracy.

With this speed dating, not only a platform for direct exchange is created, but also a contribution to active political education and participation. In this way, citizens can bring the important topics for them and thus influence the political agenda.
