Drama in Neustadt: Flood and knife attack shape 2023!

On December 28, 2024, the city of Neustadt looks back on an eventful year 2023. Both the local media and the residents have intensively discussed various topics. Among the most important events, the Christmas flood, which the Hanover region affected was severely affected. In this context, a burst pressure line on Nienburger Straße was repaired in February. The rescue workers had to move out due to flooded roads, and the city fire chief reported at the New Year's reception of dramatic days.

Another concise incident was a knife attack in which a 61-year-old man was sentenced to ten years in prison after seriously injured his wife in April in the Irish Pub. The perpetrator does not remember the crime while the woman reported threats. In addition, the news about a barefoot man who ran from Mardorf to Hagenburg caused excitement. After the wife alerted the police, the man later contacted his daughter.

important events and developments

In May a wind turbine near Lutter was broken down, an event that attracted numerous spectators. The explosion was carried out according to the plan, with two detonations to be overgrown with animals. In addition, there were agricultural protests that were organized by farmers at the beginning of Neustädter. These were directed against the current agricultural policy and also continued in September when the animal protection law focused on.

Another highlight was the opening of a new town hall branch that took place in the anniversary year of the city. The open house attracted many interested parties, and in November a discount market called Action opened on the ground floor of the town hall. Several finds also contributed to the reporting: In February, an honest finder gave a bag of 35,750 euros from the police, while a 71-year-old woman lost 4,650 euros in April and held the money back from an honest finder.

The topic of wind power also concerned the region beyond new town. On Friday at 2 p.m. one of the two wind turbines on the Schauinsland near Freiburg was blown up. The wind turbine had been 20 years of operation and the 98 meter high concrete tower fell on a prepared swath in the forest. Numerous onlookers persecuted the demolition on site or in the live stream, which was accompanied by the SWR. The explosion was the first of its kind in Baden-Württemberg, which was confirmed by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Environment. The area around the concrete tower was cordoned off at a radius of 400 meters, and the Schauinslandbahn ceased its business during the explosion. The second wind turbine remains in operation until spring before it is also dismantled to make room for a new, much larger wind turbine.
