Düsseldorf is preparing: Large exercise at airport for aircraft accidents!

At the Düsseldorf Airport, the fire brigade and rescue workers are now training under realistic conditions on April 5, 2025. The exercise, which took place on Saturday, aims to rehearse the operation after a simulated aircraft accident. In order to ensure impartial participation, the exact details of the exercise were kept secret. According to our information, training is carried out in the area of the runway, where extras will represent injured passengers.

not only the airport fire brigade are involved in the exercise, but also the Düsseldorf professional fire brigade and other rescue workers. This serves the goal of strengthening the cooperation of these different places. A decisive element of the exercise is the use of a Mobile fire simulation system that enables to train in terms of location and realistically in the aircraft fighting.

regular major exercises at the airport

Such comprehensive exercises take place every two years at Düsseldorf Airport. The implementation of these exercises follows the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The last such exercise took place with the participation of 300 people. An eye -hitting training system is essential because airport fire brigades are increasingly faced with economic and personnel challenges.

The fire simulation system that is used is modularly structured and enables specific training conditions. These were designed in such a way that they meet the most frequently sold aircraft patterns and should offer the airport fire brigades the opportunity to train their operational tactics regularly. Training methods are based on the international guidelines of ICAO and EASA.

deeper training for emergency services

In addition to the practical exercise, courses on aircraft fire fighting are offered for train and group leaders. This content not only includes the legal basics, but also scheduling games, the formation and management of a phase of application as well as tactical fundamental bases. New developments in aviation, such as alternative drives and various fuels, are also discussed.

The target group of these courses are particularly train and group leaders of airport fire brigades. After completing a basic course to combat aircraft, the emergency services can acquire a certificate according to the ICAO and EASA standards. The next dates for these important training courses will be announced shortly and are of great importance for safety at the airport.
