Düsseldorf Airport enthusiastic: New direct flight to Ljubljana!

On April 29, 2025, Düsseldorf Airport presented its new summer flight schedule, which is waiting with several new travel destinations and additional airlines. An outstanding element of this plan is the first direct flight from Eurowings from Düsseldorf Airport to Ljubljana, which took place on April 12, 2025. A passenger who was on this flight described the connection as a "great asset" for the trip between Düsseldorf and Slovenia. The flight, which lasts about 1.5 hours, was celebrated with an impressive water fountain from the fire brigade on arrival in Ljubljana.

The symbolic greeting of the first flight took place in the presence of several important personalities. Among them were Dr. Babett Stapel, the managing director of Fraport Slovenia, and Tomaž Pečnik, provisional general director of the management for aviation and shipping in the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Slovenia. Kevin Berisha, Ioannis Adamidis, Pavlos Petsalakis and Louis Murselovic were present on the part of Eurowings. This event was not only important for passengers, but also for media and other interested parties.

flight connections and frequency

The new flights from Ljubljana to Düsseldorf and vice versa are offered three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. These flights are available throughout the summer flight plan until the end of October 2025. The aircraft used for this connection are the Airbus A319 and A320 models. The flight duration from Ljubljana to Düsseldorf is approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes.

The decision to include Ljubljana in the network of Eurowings is part of the wider strategy of the airline to offer more tourist flights. This strategy can also be seen in the financial key figures of Eurowings. In 2024, the airline generated sales of 2,872 million euros, which corresponds to an increase of 11 percent compared to the previous year. The operational income also rose to 2,983 million euros.

The airline has also expanded its fleet of 100 aircraft and at the same time expanded offers such as Eurowings Holidays that offer over 1,000 package tours per day. These developments are a sign of increasing demand for tourist air travel and require an adjustment of the offer that has increased by 13 percent.

growth and challenges

Eurowings has recorded constant growth in recent years, but the necessary adjustments in the industry are not without challenges. The average proceeds dropped by 1.9 percent, while personnel expenses rose by 17 percent. Nevertheless, the airline looks optimistically into the future, whereby the demand for travel remains strong.

With the new connection to Ljubljana, the importance of Düsseldorf as an international hub continues to increase, and passengers from the region can now travel directly to the charming capital of Slovenia. This development could not only strengthen tourist relationships between Germany and Slovenia, but also promote economic cooperation. The Eurowings connection is therefore an important milestone in the 2025 summer flight plan.
