A tree for the future: ÖDP plants 700 seedlings in Haßbergland!

On May 7, 2025, the members of the ecological-democratic party (ÖDP) Haßberge celebrated the "Day of the Baumes" in Buch with a special campaign: Oswald Mantel had planted a forest on his field. He brought 700 new tree seedlings into the ground on around 2000 square meters, including small grape oaks, Elsberries, field maple, hornbeams, wild bulbs and summer linden trees

The campaign illustrated the importance of a large number of climate -resistant tree species that not only contribute to biodiversity, but also offer numerous ecological advantages. "Save trees CO2, cool, emit moisture and serve as a construction and fuel," emphasized Mantel. These aspects are becoming increasingly important in times of climate change, since mixed forests are more adaptable than monocultures and thus enable a more stable future for the forests, as is also noted on climate and kit.edu.

commitment on site

was supported by Stefan Zettelmeier, the chairman of the ecodemocrats, who also advocates the idea of a mixed forest. To protect and promote the trees, Mantel has fenced the entire area. In addition, as a hedge, he set hazelnuts, hawthorn, hardwear and common hedge cherry.

Numerous visitors helped on the plant day. They became active to pour the seedlings because the rain was not sufficient on that day. In addition, bark mulch and straw ensured better moisture maintenance, which stimulates soil life. Further measures included drilling insect hotels and setting up piles with nesting boxes to support the local wildlife.

a thank you to the helpers

Oswald Mantel thanked all the helpers and invited them to a common snack and a refreshing booker beer. This joint campaign not only illustrates the connection of humanity with nature, but also a strong commitment to the preservation of the environment in the region.

Overall, it can be seen that the initiative has far -reaching positive effects on the “day of the tree”, both for the environment and for the sense of community. Initiatives like this make a valuable contribution to combating climate change and promoting biodiversity. In particular, the mixture of different tree species is a crucial point that many experts see as a key to successfully adapting to the challenges of the climate.
