Burglars are injured during curious escape in Bremen!

On Monday night, a 33-year-old man was arrested in Bremen after being caught going to a kiosk. The incident occurred at 3:35 a.m. in Langemarckstraße when residents heard loud clinks and the police informed. Witnesses reported that the burglar entered the kiosk through a destroyed shop window. Before that, however, he had damaged the window of an adjacent pizzeria with a gully's lid and thus committed the first step in his criminal act.

After the violent access to the kiosk, the man took several boxes of cigarettes. When attempted to escape, however, the pane of the kiosk broke out of its frame and fell on his foot, which led to an injury. This unusual turn of the events led the burglar to be arrested on site by the alarmed emergency services. The thief was ensured and the injured received medical care before being taken to a hospital for further treatment. A procedure for particularly severe theft is initiated against him, as the Weser-Kurier

burglary statistics and prevention

The incident in Bremen is another example of increasing burglary crime in Germany. According to the current burglar statistics 2024, 77,819 burglaries nationwide were registered nationwide, which corresponds to an increase of around 18 percent compared to the previous year. This development is partly due to the increased crime after Corona pandemic, which had a major impact on the burglary. In large cities, such as Bremen, the burglary numbers are typically significantly higher than in rural regions.

The most common methods to penetrate into private houses are the pruning of doors and pulling the cylinder. Popular points of attack are balcony and terrace doors, which are attacked in 50 percent of the cases, followed by windows and front doors. Despite the increasing crime rates, almost half of the attempts at burglary are unsuccessful, since many occasional and spontaneous offenders fail thanks to improved security measures. The police then developed prevention measures to protect the citizens, including through security consultations that are becoming increasingly important. For 2023, insurance damage of 340 million euros was reported to the insurance company. This represents an increase of 70 million euros compared to the previous year, as highlighted on Home-insider
