Euskirchner Südstadt train: a spectacle full of colorful costumes and fun!
On March 2, 2025, the city of Euskirchen celebrated its traditional southern city train. This event attracted numerous participants from far away, including Jens Kirch from Lübeck, who, together with his family in colorful Pippi Longstocking costumes, took part in the move. Her group, which was a scene in which Pippi triumphed about Donald Trump, caused a sensation among the spectators.
Another highlight was the family of five from Cologne, who took part in the southern city train for the first time. They had found contact with the carnivalists from the region through joint known contact and were enthusiastic about the atmosphere. Zugleiter Colette Leber led a total of 24 groups in a move, which passed the impressive festival car by Franzi I.
dazzling costumes and happy mood
Franzi I, the rainy of the carnival, expressed her joy that it was her dream of being active in this role. Her parents had inspired her to continue tradition. The move ended at the St. Matthias forum and seamlessly transferred to a happy party that was celebrated extensively by those present.
The other participants belonged to Nils Kastenholz from the LG Olympia Euskirchen-Erfststadt, who took part in the southern City train for the first time with the motto "The LGO near Olympia". The running club used this opportunity for relay training and is already planning to take part again next year. The teachers of the Südstadt day care center were also represented and celebrated together with children and parents in Dalmatian costumes.
The number of spectators was high and many guests had imaginatively costumed. A couple who wore a chess board on their heads caught the eye. Colette Leber and Peter Barth, President of the Southern Cities, were satisfied with the expiry of the move and the large number of viewers. The freshly crowned regent Franzi was happy about the course of the celebrations and the commitment of everyone involved.
tradition and diversity of the carnival
carnival, which is known in Germany under various names such as Fastelovend or Fasenacht, has a long tradition in many regions. In Euskirchen and the surrounding area, Fastnacht is an important cultural pillar. From different parts of the country, the "Jecken" flock into the streets and celebrate with creative costumes, motif cars and throwing sweets, the so -called "camels". Many of the elements that shape the carnival go back to ancient festivities that honored deities such as Dionysos and Saturnus.
The carnival has been an integral part of culture, especially in Catholic regions, for centuries, which can be clearly felt in Euskirchen. Despite different traditions and regional characteristics, the message of the carnival remains universal: joy, cohesion and the possibility of loosening social differences once a year with creative disguises and humor. Carnival not only has an entertaining character, but also promotes the sense of community.
The city of Euskirchen has recently published an updated list of carnival trains. The moves take place in the core city and in the districts. So numerous events could take place this year, including the already mentioned southern city trainee, which was carried out as usual despite construction sites in the city.
The southern train train on February 18 was part of a series of celebrations that took place in the period from Weiberfastnacht to Rosenmontag. In particular, the moves in Euskirchen were well attended, with participants from different parts of the city who celebrated the carnival together and kept the tradition alive.
