Dynamic in Rhineland-Palatinate: closure for construction damage! What now?

The dynamic, the only science center in Rhineland-Palatinate, has been closed since mid-November 2024. The reason for this is building damage, which were found in particular on the popular “race tunnel” exhibit. Managing Director Rolf Schlicher announced that part of the acoustic ceiling has solved, which indicates technical execution errors. These problems affect the entire upper floor of the dynamic.

No visitor groups have been allowed in the dynamic since Monday, and the exhibition has been closed for the time being. An expert opinion on the damage is already available. Schlich confirmed that part of the acoustic ceiling fell out last weekend, outside of opening hours, which required the immediate need for action. An engineering office was consulted to evaluate the situation.

At the moment, specialists are working on the simple repairs that make up about 70 percent of the cover parts. The remaining 30 percent are a greater challenge because pipes and sprinklers run there. Schlicher said that planning for the special solutions is progressing together with a structural engineer and an architect. The commissioned company conducts the work quickly, but there is no reliable schedule for the reopening of the dynamic.

Although Schleig has an internal desired date for reopening, he does not yet want to commit himself. The managing director hopes to receive more detailed information about the further procedure next week. An appointment with the responsible architect is scheduled to discuss the situation comprehensively.

uncertain future

At the time, it remains unclear when the Technikmuseum can be opened again to visitor groups. Scraver himself cannot estimate whether a partial opening of the dynamic is possible in the foreseeable future. The process is also legally checked, although for the time being, he does not want to communicate any further details. The goal remains clear: to be open to visitors again as soon as possible as soon as the security standards are guaranteed.

For more information about the situation in the dynamic and the ongoing repair work, interested parties can visit the museum's website: dynamik.de . Many are already considering how long the Science Center has to stay without visitor and what effects this could have on the popularity and finances of the museum.
