Early detection examinations: Alarming numbers in the Märkische Kreis!
on February 4, 2025, on the occasion of the World Cancer Day, the AOK Nordwest appeals to the population in the Märkisches Kreis to use the cancer early detection investigations more intensively. The AOK service region Dirk Schneider emphasizes that early diagnosis is crucial for the chances of recovery.
In 2023, however, only 20.3 % of men over 45 years and 38.3 % of women aged 20 and over have used the offered cancer early detection investigations. This shows that participation in the free examinations is insufficient. The AOK recommends that you quickly have failed appointments to recognize cancer in the early stages. All legal detection investigations are fully paid for by the health insurance companies, which should reduce the inhibition threshold for the use.
Innovative aids for cancer detection
To help people in the Märkischer Kreis, the AOK developed the 'Prahor-O-Mat'. This online tool provides information on cancer provision and leads users through upcoming examinations. It also supports the search for specialists and creates individual pension plans.
Awareness of cancer is particularly important, not only for those affected, but also for their relatives. These often face emotional and practical challenges. To support them, the AOK launched the family coach Krebs in cooperation with experts. This free online program offers help with emotional, physical or social stress that can arise from the cancer of a relative.
early detection at an overview of
Early detection of cancer is a complex topic. Some tumors develop quickly, while others do not show symptoms for a long time. Often they are only visible when growth by ultrasound or X -rays. The AOK indicates that regular full-body investigations do not bring any proven benefits and many of the "Cancer Diagnostics" offers advertised on the Internet or doctor's practices also cause costs (hedgehogs) that have to be borne.
All adults aged 18 and over are entitled to a health examination according to the law that can be repeated regularly. Checkup also includes general health control as well as a risk test for cancer and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, people aged 35 and over receive additional examinations such as urine or cholesterol measurements.
Especially for women between the ages of 50 and 75, it is important to take part in the mammography screenings offered. These take place every two years in certified examination facilities and include comprehensive information and the possibility of further diagnostics in the event of abnormalities. From July 1, 2024, the upper limit for screening will be increased to 75 years, which gives women between 70 and 75 years of additional access to these important examinations.
The AOK Nordwest is available at any time for further information on the programs and studies. It is of great importance that each individual takes responsibility for their health seriously and takes appropriate measures to recognize cancer.
