Early submission for the Bundestag election: deadline until January 20!

The early Bundestag election in Germany takes place on February 23, 2025. Direct candidates are asked to submit their district election proposals by Monday, January 20, at 6 p.m. Later submissions are not taken into account. The constituency area is divided into a total of 299 constituencies to facilitate the election organization. In Germany, the voters become active through two votes: the first vote goes to the direct candidate, while the second vote applies to a party.

The electoral office in the Schwelmer Kreishaus is responsible for constituency 138-Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis II, which includes the cities of Hattingen, Herdecke, Sprockhövel, Wetter/Ruhr and Witten. In constituency 137-Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis I, responsible at the city of Hagen, are the cities of Breckerfeld, Ennepetal, Gevelsberg and Schwelm. The district election office recommends that the election proposals be submitted early in order to be able to fix any defects. Appointments to submit the proposals are possible by phone at 02336/932960 or 02336/932003 and by email to [Email Protected].

electoral right reform and constituency structure

The Bundestag election is originally said to have 598 seats in the Bundestag, but overhang mandates rose the number to currently 733 seats. A voting right reform aims to limit the number of seats to a maximum of 630, while the number of constituencies remains constant at 299. The constituencies are structured in such a way that they form coherent areas based on community and district borders. There are a total of 38 constituencies in Baden-Württemberg, with around 240,320 people living on average in one constituency.

The constituencies must have a population that does not differ more than 15% of this average number. If there is a deviation of more than 25%, the constituency must be re -tailored. Electric circles in metropolitan areas tend to have smaller areas than in rural regions. Around 80,000 election workers are required for the upcoming federal election in Baden-Württemberg.

On January 24, 2025, the district election committee will decide on the admission of the proposals, and symptoms can be checked by the state election committee by January 30th. A special innovation is that the first voice has less weight, since the seats in the Bundestag are only determined by the second vote. This could lead to electoral winners if their party does not receive enough seats. Further information on the electoral circles can be viewed on the bundesahltsiter.de.
