Furapass: The legendary scene from James Bond again in focus!

The Furkapass in Switzerland is one of the most impressive mountain roads in Europe and gained world fame through the James Bond film "Goldfinger" from 1964. In this third bond film with Sean Connery as James Bond, the main character pursues the billionaire Auric Goldfinger, who wants to destabilize the international currency system. Important characters of the film are gold fingers, played by Gert Fröbe, Oddjob, represented by Harold Sakata, as well as the Bondgirls Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman) and Jill Masterson (Shirley Eaton). The iconic chase in Aston Martin took place in the spectacular landscapes of Furapass during the shooting from July 5 to 12, 1964.

"Goldfinger" became a large cash hit and won the Oscar for the best sound average. The film is famous for the film -historical phrase "shaken, not touched". On the occasion of the filming, the "James Bond Goldfingerkurve" is now marked with a sign at the viewpoint. The fur capass, which has a long history until the Roman period, was expanded into a fortified road in the 19th century and reaches its highest point at 2,249 meters above sea level.

Details on the fur capass

Furkapass is not only known for its film -historical importance, but also for its impressive landscape and the challenges he offers drivers. With a maximum climb of 11 percent, he attracts over 250,000 people annually, including cyclists, motorcyclists, and tourists in private vehicles. The road is well developed, but is particularly frequented on weekends and in the high season. In winter, from October to May, the passport for traffic is closed because the regional weather often brings violent snowfall.

The Furkastrasse extends over 31.5 kilometers from Andermatt in the canton of Uri to Gletsch in the canton of Valais and was opened in 1867 for strategic military reasons. The highest survey of the pass is 2,431 meters above sea level. The street offers picturesque views of glaciers, mountain peaks and forested regions. Special attractions are the Rhone glacier with its ice caves, the variety of hiking and climbing opportunities as well as a 100 meter long tunnel through the glacier.

A striking point on the route is the petrol station in Andermatt, where Bond and Tilly Masterson separate from each other. Nowadays this place belongs to the Aurora Hotel. Another section of the passport, known as "James Bond Straße", has a viewpoint with parking facilities, which enables visitors to record unique photo motifs.
