Birthplace in Honsbach: A new way to the undisturbed birth!
In the Rhein-Sieg district, a pioneering project has seen the light of day: Nine months ago, midwife Nicole Emma Sassenscheid opened the first birthplace in Lohmar, which offers an alternative way to traditional clinic birth. In the newly designed birthplace in Honsbach, pregnant women find a homely environment that is tailored to the needs of expectant mothers.
The birthplace is equipped with a wide bed, cozy seating elements, and a bathtub for three people. Additional aids such as carriers, special stools and gymnastics balls are also available. This enables women to give birth in a family atmosphere while they have freedom to bring accompanying persons of their choice.
The way to founding the birthplace
The 42-year-old Sassenscheid, mother of four children, has an interesting journey into midwifery. Originally, an apprenticeship as a midwife was not intended because her parents wanted to study for her. After a successful start in social service and activity in Cologne midwife practice, she has been self -employed for five years and has specialized in home births.
The birthplace offers pregnant women the freedom to decide until the last minute whether they want to give birth at home, in the birthplace or in a clinic. The nearest delivery room in Bergisch Gladbach-Bensberg is only 15 minutes away. Scientific studies show that security is high for extra -clinical births, which makes the decision easier for many women.
A growing trend towards extra -clinical birth
In Germany only 2 % of all births not in a hospital. Of these, only 1.3 % planned home births or births in birthplaces are. In view of the rarity of midwives in this area, expectant mothers are advised to find out about their possibilities at an early stage.
The security of out of clinical births is controversial. Critics have concerns about possible complications, while supporters indicate the advantages such as fewer interventions and lower consumption of painkillers. Current studies show that planned home births do not represent higher risks for mothers or children, which the WHO confirms.
The future of obstetrics in the Rhein-Sieg district
The birthplace of Sassenscheid is not the only innovation in the region. Two other birthplaces are planned: one in the former St. Josef Hospital in Troisdorf, which is to be opened this year, and another in Königswinter that is faced with structural challenges. In addition to the new birthplace, there is currently only a birth station in St. Johannes in Troisdorf-Sieglar, which is often the only option for the residents of the region.
The growing number of out -clinical births reflects a changing awareness of women who increasingly trust their competence and support from midwives. According to current data, the trend has increasingly consolidated in recent years.
The Society for Quality in Outdoor Obstetrics (quag) supports this development by documenting the quality of all out -of -clinical births in Germany since 1999. Even if the discussion about security continues, the service of midwives in birthplaces remains an esteemed and trusting option for many.
