Together against loneliness: Gießen campaign serves warmth and soup!
The "Supp’ Un ’Schwarries" campaign in Gießen goes into its fourth round and has established itself as a significant initiative to combat loneliness. The aim of the event is to bring people together and to set a sign against social isolation, which has been particularly reinforced by the corona pandemic. This form of loneliness is considered a great common disease in Germany. [Giessener-zeiger.de] reports that the project partners of the campaign, including the Gießen-Nord, the Nordstadtverein, the workshop church, the Lucredu Foundation, the city of Gießen and the Alice School, have already organized numerous social gatherings.
The events take place on Sundays and offer more than just a warm meal. City Councilor Francesco Arman emphasizes the importance of interpersonal warmth and community. The campaign is aimed at all Gießener, regardless of their origin or their social status. The meals together extend indoors from November to April. From May onwards, the workshop church is served in the courtyard, whereby the open-air season begins on May 12th.
planned events
Several appointments are scheduled for the coming season. In addition to the opening day on May 12, further events will take place on June 15, July 13, August 10, September 7 and October 19 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Various soups are offered, including a hearty potato soup with beef sausage and a vegan red lens soup. At the last event in the northern City center, around 28 liters of soup were served for about 70 visitors.
A central concern of the initiative is to bring people from different social classes together and at the same time to promote environmental protection through the use of saved foods. The Alice School has recently been involved in the campaign, with pupils baking bread and cakes for visitors. Pastor Astrid Prinz emphasizes the connecting character of these events and announces that the campaign is currently taking place once a month, despite the demand for weekly meetings. Interested parties have the opportunity to get involved or donate to the workshop church. Information on this can be found under the Lugredu Foundation's donation account.
loneliness in Germany
Loneliness is not just an issue in Gießen. The Ministry of the Federal Ministry has launched a program that is specifically against social isolation. With the title "Strengthening of the participation of older people - against loneliness and social isolation" (Stem), around 50 million euros from the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus) are to be distributed nationwide by more than 70 regional project sponsors. These initiatives are particularly geared towards the needs of older people in rural regions. [bmfsfj.de] informs that the first funding project of Stephanus gGmbH in Bad Freienwalde is that offers targeted offers such as commitment exchanges, IT sponsorships and visiting services.
The Federal Ministry of Family Affairs's sensitization campaign on loneliness is aimed at all age groups and life situations. Women of old age are often more affected by loneliness, but younger people also feel is increasingly isolated. The campaign indicates existing help offers, including telephone counseling, the "number against Kummer", the Maltese relief service and the various multi -generation houses.
The initiative "Supp’ Un ’Schwozen" in Gießen is a local step in a larger social context in which loneliness and social isolation are increasingly taken seriously. While the campaign continues to bring people from different social classes, the fight against loneliness remains a task for society as a whole.
