Hartz Rot Gold: Tanja and Willy fight for their citizens' money!

On January 6, 2025, RTL2 shows new episodes of the popular social documentary "Hartz Rot Gold". One of the episodes is entitled "Problems and Solutions" and illuminates the life of Willy and Tanja from Gelsenkirchen. The two protagonists spend their summer at a campsite near Hamm-Uentrop. In accordance with the presentation of Derwesten has made Tanja an application for citizens' money at the job center.

The application for the citizens' benefit was a challenging experience for Tanja. After four months of waiting, she now received the approval letter from the job center, which tells her that she received around 451 euros a month. This financial support is of considerable importance for Tanja and Willy, since the costs for rent, heating costs and additional costs are partially covered. Tanja describes the approval as a great relief and plans to be able to shop properly again.

Citizens' allowance as social support

The citizen benefit, which has replaced unemployment benefit II (Hartz IV) since January 2023, was introduced to offer people financial security and support for returning to working life. According to Federal Government are entitled to this benefits if their income is not sufficient or you cannot find a job despite an active effort.

The application for citizens' benefit requires proof of the need for help. This is a central point that is also in contrast to social assistance, which is intended for non -employed persons who are permanently dependent on support. While citizen gowns have to actively search for a job, social assistance aims to secure the subsistence level for people who cannot work due to health problems or age. This system is regulated in the twelfth Book of the Social Code (SGB XII), while the citizens' allowance is anchored in the second Social Code (SGB II).

social security through state support

The need for social achievements can be seen in the diversity of the reasons why people can get into emergencies - be it due to loss of job, chronic diseases or a little pension. People in such situations benefit from state social benefits that ensure a subsistence level and enable participation in social life.

American social legislation deals with various types of support. The benefits of social assistance include help to livelihood, basic security in old age and in the event of reduced earning capacity, help on health and help to overcome special social difficulties. In addition, the social welfare office offers help in other situations and checks the claims for these help.

Overall, the case of Tanja and Willy illustrates the significant role of social support in Germany and provides valuable insights into the often complex processes of applications and permits. The new episodes of "Hartz, Red, Gold" run on TV from Monday to Friday at 4:05 p.m. and are also available in the media library at RTL+.
