Job Info exchange inspires students: Who will be the next training star?
On March 11, 2025, the 27th job information exchange took place at the Joachim Schumann School in Babenhausen. This most important event for career orientation brought together almost 40 exhibitors who presented a wide range of training occupations and further training opportunities. Around 260 pupils, in particular from the ninth year of the Joachim Schumann School and some from the tenth year, took the opportunity to find out about their professional perspectives. Mayor Dominik Stadler and headmistress Ursula Pullmann urged the students to actively use the day and to incorporate the information offered into their own career decision.
In view of the ongoing shortage of skilled workers,The search for qualified young people is of great importance. The job information exchange accepted a special character: on the one hand, it was less a classic trade fair than that the students selected three companies or institutions in advance that they wanted to visit. On the other hand, most of the companies presented their offers in classrooms, supplemented by short lectures and questions. The Bundeswehr also provided an info to inform about various professional opportunities.
training market under pressure
The training market is still under pressure. According to the current figures from the Federal Institute for Vocational Training, the number of newly completed dual training contracts in 2024 fell to 486,700, which represents a decline of 2,500 compared to the previous year. This is an alarming trend that has also emerged in recent years: since 2009 there have been a total of 77,595 fewer apprenticeships. Despite an increased interest in dual vocational training, with 557,100 training seekers, many places remained vacant because only 19.1 percent of the companies train.
A similar picture is also shown in Babenhausen. While young people were the most diverse career wishes, such as the cook, doctor or media designer, the majority of the pupils do not decide on a dual training, but strives for a further school career. However, the growing interest in professions in craft, including in agriculture or as a retail clerk, could contribute to stabilization in the long term.
The challenge of the search for apprenticeships
A worrying result of the current surveys shows that around 31,000 young people will not find a training position in 2024. The falling number of training positions leads to a gap between supply and demand, which must be solved all the more urgent. BIBB President Friedrich Hubert Esser expressed concern about the stagnating new degrees, which remains in despite increasing demand for training positions. While the demand for dual professions rose by 4,200, the number of training positions offered decreased by 6,500.
The challenges of the training market are therefore complex. Solutions such as the demand for a pay -as -you -go training place guarantee by the ver.di youth could partially remedy this. However, this guarantee also remains without a nationwide claim to training positions. The uncertainty about the professional future urges young people to deal with their professional opportunities more intensively, as the job information exchange illustrated.
Overall, the situation on the training market is an urgent topic in both Babenhausen and throughout Germany, which will pose major challenges for both companies and educational institutions in the coming years. It remains to be seen how the training landscape will develop and what measures are taken to meet the needs of young people and companies.
Developments on the training market are influenced by different factors, among other things through regional differences in vocational training and the need to respond to the needs of young people. In view of the shortage of skilled workers and the falling number of training positions, it is of great importance that students actively use the offers that are available to them.
