Accident series on the Schiersteiner Bridge: Experts demand urgent measures!

The Schiersteiner Bridge, a heavily frequented connection between Wiesbaden and Mainz, has led to a worrying increase in traffic accidents in the past few years and a half. Since October 2023, there have been 19 accidents at this point, with the last serious incidents being due to unclear lane markings and excessive speeds. The bridge narrowed from three in two traces towards Bingen, which presents many drivers with challenges. On March 6, 2025, in the early morning, there was another accident in which a driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the concrete delimitation. The driver fled from the scene of the accident, but left his demolished car behind. According to SWR Aktuell reports to improve traffic safety.

The Autobahn GmbH also plans initiatives to visualize the crop. This includes not only the improvement of the road markings, but also the attachment of turning arrows that should be helpful to the drivers. Markings are provided with a special film in order to be better visible even in the dark. The discussions between the road construction and traffic authority and the motorway police are already running and should lead to solutions promptly.

The situation on the Schiersteiner Bridge remains tense. The continued decline in traffic safety and the accumulation of accidents requires quick action to direct both traffic flows and to minimize the risk for all road users. It is to be hoped that the planned measures will be implemented soon and the bridge will become a safe transition for all drivers again.
