Frankfurt celebrates records: More births and naturalizations 2024!

The Frankfurt registry office has published its review of the year for 2024 and shows a positive development in several areas. Compared to the previous year, there were not only more births, but also a significant increase in naturalizations and a decline in deaths. These trends were recently presented by the head of the head Stephanie Wüst (FDP) and found broad interest in public.

In 2024, a total of 12,000 newborns were certified in Frankfurt, which represents a slight increase in 191 compared to the previous year. The birth statistics reveal that more boys (about 6,220) were born than girls (5,780). It is particularly noteworthy that 4,966 mothers from the surrounding area gave birth to facilities in Frankfurt. The most popular first names were Sophie and Noah.

naturalization and legal changes

Another outstanding feature of the registry office was the increase in naturalizations. Around 4,000 people received German citizenship in Frankfurt in 2024. This development is strongly influenced by the changes in the right of nationality, which came into force in June 2024 and led to an increase in applications. A total of almost 10,000 applications were made for naturalization.

The Self -Determination Act, which came into force on November 1, 2023, enables around 200 people to change their gender entry and first names by a simple explanation at the registry office. This law also contributed to increasing applications for civil status adjustments.

decline in deaths and marriages

A pleasant aspect of the annual statistics is the decline in deaths in Frankfurt. A total of around 8,290 people died, which represents a decline of around 150 comparisons for the previous year. Around 2,590 couples in the main metropolis married in the marriages. The Roman remains the most popular place for wedding ceremonies, with about 1,780 closed marriages, followed by the Bolongaropalast in Höchst with around 690 marriages and the palm garden, which served as a backdrop for about 110 pairs.

Finally,

The year 2025 is eagerly awaited if a new law to change the right to name comes into force on May 1st. This law will enable more flexibility when choosing the family name and thus represent a further step towards modernizing the registry office.

Overall, the registry office report for 2024 shows that Frankfurt is going through a change that is expressed in both the numbers and in the newly introduced laws. These developments are of great importance not only for the city itself, but also for the people who live here.
