New Year's Eve chaos in Hesse: hundreds of missions, e-scooter attack and fires!

On New Year's Eve 2024/2025, the police and fire brigade in Hesse had to deal with numerous missions. In Frankfurt alone, around 500 missions were recorded that mainly affected smaller fires in garbage containers, hedges and burning garbage. In addition, the emergency services had to deploy due to rest distances, disputes and bodily harm. Seriously injured people were initially not reported, which is a positive balance.

Special incidents occurred in Frankfurt, among other things, where an e-scooter was thrown onto a patrol car from a bridge and two police officers were slightly injured. This led to an investigation into an attempted homicide. In Obertshausen, too, there was an attack by a larger group of people on a radio car, which caused an investigation into a particularly difficult breach of the peace. Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) emphasized the proven police concepts of the police and spoke out for an increase in the punishment for attacks on emergency services.

unusual missions and damage to property

An unusual use for the technical relief organization (THW) occurred when sugar beet fell from a freight train between Hanau and Aschaffenburg and about two tons were scattered over one kilometer. In addition, a drunk driver in South Hesse caused several collisions, with two pedestrians being slightly injured and property damage of 17,500 euros was caused.

The weather conditions in the Schwalm-Eder district caused additional challenges because an ice sheet and stormy gusts resulted in numerous fallen trees. There was also a fire in Melsungen when a cable drum caught fire, with three people being injured. In Wiesbaden, an apartment fire caused over 100,000 euros in property damage, but all residents could be brought to safety. 18 fire cases and 33 rescue operations were reported in Offenbach, with no injuries to complain. In Kranichstein, too, the firefighters had to intervene despite the fire with pyrotechnics and firecrackers.

In Kassel, positive feedback on a laser show took place on New Year's Eve, which was carried out instead of fireworks. Overall, the New Year's Eve in Hesse seems to have expired on the whole without major riots, such as DetailsQuellen
