Train failures in Frankfurt: Massive restrictions for commuters tonight!
Deutsche Bahn published comprehensive information on current train failures in the Frankfurt (Main) area on February 11, 2025. This happens due to a short-term personnel failure that affects the S-Bahn lines in particular. The restrictions come into force on the night of February 11th at 10:30 p.m. to around 5:00 a.m. on February 12th and lead to significant impairments in S-Bahn traffic.
The affected S-Bahn lines include:
- S1: Wiesbaden Hbf-Hochheim (Main)-Frankfurt Hbf (deep)-Offenbach (Main) East-Rödermark-Ober Roden
- S3: Bad Soden (Taunus) - Frankfurt (Main) West - Frankfurt Hbf (deep) - Frankfurt (Main) Süd

- S5: Friedrichsdorf (Taunus) - Bad Homburg - Oberursel (Taunus) - Frankfurt (Main) West - Frankfurt Hbf (deep) - Frankfurt (Main) Süd
In addition, the train operation of the line S1 ends prematurely in Frankfurt-Höchst, while for lines S3, S4 and S5 there is no operation possible.
replacement traffic and alternatives

- S4: 5 buses between Kronberg (Taunus)-Frankfurt-Rödelheim-Frankfurt (Main) Hbf
- S5: 6 buses between Friedrichsdorf (Taunus)-Frankfurt-Rödelheim-Frankfurt (Main) Hbf
travelers are asked to plan their trips beforehand. The trains are available for the S1 line until around 10:30 p.m. Alternatively, travelers can use the replacement buses from around 11:30 p.m. For lines S3, S4 and S5 it is recommended to use the S6 between Frankfurt (Main) West and Frankfurt Hbf (deep).
Deutsche Bahn points out that travelers can find out about the current operating situation shortly before departure, for example by the DB Navigator or the website of the railway. The customer hotline for Hessen can be reached on +49 69 244 457 10
background of the problem
The disorders in rail traffic are not the first time in Hesse. Already on the weekend of 26/27. October 2024 there were similar incidents due to a short-term illness of signal box staff who led to bumpy conditions in S-Bahn traffic around Frankfurt. Starter works in Frankfurt and Offenbach were understaffed, which impaired the reliability of the trains. Regional trains between Frankfurt and Limburg were also affected, where failures occurred.
The challenges in local public transport (public transport) could bring serious consequences in the long term. A study by the ver.di union shows that almost half of the public workers in public transport could retire or leave the profession. This affects 63,000 jobs that have to be occupied by then. In order to do justice to the intended objectives, the sector needs an additional 87,000 specialists by 2030.
ver.di warns of a possible collapse of the current public transport offer if no short-term measures are taken to improve working conditions and to support municipal local transport companies. In addition, the union calls for a “mobility guarantee” and a Germany social ticket for people with low incomes to ensure the mobility of all citizens.
The pressure on Deutsche Bahn and other transport providers grow not only due to short -term challenges such as personnel failures, but also due to structural problems in public transport, as has also been the case. href = "https://www.news.de/reisen-und-leben/85836460/deutschebahn-zugausfall-in-hessen-zugausfaelle-im-frankfurt-infos-ueber-aktuelle-db-s-im-im-imban/1/"> news.de While passengers rely on replacement traffic and alternative routes, it is to be hoped that sustainable solutions will be found to secure mobility in the region.
