Café Thiele in Fulda: Millions of renovation with tradition by 2026!

The Café Thiele in Fulda, an institution of the city, is currently being extensively renovated. Work on the building, which was built around 1919, is in full swing and require several million euros in investments. The demolition of the old structures is expected to begin in April 2025, since talks about the use of the parking lot with the neighboring Hotel Platzhirsch have not yet been completed. The road remains open during the renovation work, which ensures the accessibility of the environment.

It was originally planned to continue the café operation in an alternative accommodation, but this plan failed. Alternatives for a temporary solution could not be realized because no suitable rental areas were found and the costs for containers were too high. As a result, 20 employees receive terminations, but they are given the opportunity to return after the renovation. Support is offered in the job search.

A central element of the renovation is the equipment of the new bakery with modern technology, which is intended to reduce energy consumption by half. In addition to the Café, 20 new apartments are being built, which will be rented to tourists or craftsmen in the future, which should contribute to the resurrection of the location.

This extensive renovation and the planned new building show that despite the challenges of health processing and the necessary dismissals, the will to renew and preserve the traditional facility remains strong.
