Icy temperatures! Cold test for Hesse and Saxony is imminent

in Hesse begins the week with frosty weather and low temperatures. The German Weather Service (DWD) warned of slight frost, especially for Northern Hesse, which includes Kassel, the Schwalm-Eder district and the Werra-Meißner-Kreis. In the region around Fulda, too, residents can expect outside temperatures that are between 1 and 4 degrees during the day, while on Tuesday night the temperatures in Northern Hessian Bergland can reach up to -10 degrees, such as hna reported

At the beginning of this frosty period, the wind remains weak. Tuesday will also run sunny and rainfall, but the cold temperatures remain. A change in the weather is expected below, which could lead to climbs of the temperatures from Thursday. The meteorologists predict in higher locations a maximum of 5 degrees and in lower regions up to 9 degrees.

spring turn in sight

The meteorologist Dominik Jung describes this upcoming change in weather as a "spring turn". A noticeable warming is expected for the weekend, with temperatures that could reach between 13 and 18 degrees. These changes announce a transition to spring, in which, however, allergy sufferers should also pay attention to the warning of an "explosive pollen load".

on Friday night it remains very cloudy, and light rain may not be ruled out. Nevertheless, the temperatures at night are pleasantly milder and are between 0 and 3 degrees, which clearly contradicts the typical winter weather for this season.

comparison with other regions

Compared to the extreme temperatures in other parts of Germany, such as in Saxony, where the coldest night of winter 2023/24 was measured with minus 23.4 degrees, it can be seen that Hessen got off lightly during this time. According to n-tv the cold pole in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, with other cold places that fell below minus 20 degrees. Such extreme temperature fluctuations in Germany are not common and often the consequence of a disturbed polar vertebra, which are also influenced by the snowstorm "Kingston" in North America.

The temperature differences are also remarkable in the second half of the week, because the warm air from Spain could raise the temperatures in West Germany up to almost 20 degrees. The predicted temperature jump of over 40 degrees between the lowest and maximum values is particularly striking, but these predicted mild values may already be replaced in a timely manner.
