Opening of Pier 36: Fulda gets new gastronomic highlight!
On May 1, 2025, the new gastronomy "Pier 36" opened its doors at the old glidered hall on Aueweiher in Fulda. This new opening is the result of a special initiative that was launched in the course of the plans for the State Garden Show 2023. The aim is to create a permanent gastronomic offer for residents and visitors.
The city of Fulda selected the Heurich company as a tenant for the hall and the adjacent area. The operator, Hans Jürgen Schmalenberg, is actively supported by the Gastro family Elmar Zuszann. At the opening, guests were received with a grill stand that offered Thuringian sausages, as well as ice cream from the Rhöner Bio-Bauernhof Vogel.
inviting atmosphere and diverse offer
The gastronomy "Pier 36" offers a serving car and a terrace with beer garden furniture that offers space for around 240 guests. In the coming weeks, the old glider hall will continue to be prepared to present a wider and more diverse culinary offer. This includes a creative snack range, suitable drinks and a small shop for regional products and accessories. The official start of the offer in the glider hall is planned for June 4, 2025, exactly one week before Pentecost.
The plans around "Pier 36" have already provided a lot of speculation in Fulda, especially with regard to the details of the opening and the operator. With the opening, a new gastronomic highlight is set at the Aueweiher, which is intended to increase the quality of life in the city and create a meeting point for the community.
part of the State Garden Show Planning
The foundation of the catering trade is closely linked to the upcoming state garden show, which will take place in Fulda in 2026. This will be under the motto "old strengths- new worlds" and aim to promote the high quality of life and a new quality awareness of green and freedom in the city. The first Hessian State Garden Show took place in Fulda in 1994 and provided further positive effects for urban planning projects.
The new projects planned as part of the garden show include the renovation of the "Heimatiergarten" and the upgrading of the industrially shaped water landscape with channels and Aueweiher. The restoration of historical light and air baths is also on the agenda.
The initiatives around the catering "Pier 36" and the upcoming state garden show illustrate how closely urbanity and nature in Fulda are linked. New habitats from the industrially shaped water landscape to the Fulda gallery are to be created. It is already becoming apparent which important steps can bring relaxation, nature and community for the city of Fulda in the future
