Designing the future: Students at Girls 'and Boys' Day in Fulda
The city of Fulda took part in the nationwide girls 'and Boys' Day, which took place on April 3, 2025. The primary goal of this initiative was to give students an insight into various professional fields and career opportunities. Around 110 young participants were enthusiastic when Mayor Dag Wehner welcomed them in the electoral room of the city palace. Osthessen news reports that Wehner emphasized the relevance of the day by emphasizing how important it is at an early stage with professional perspectives to deal with.
In an innovative framework, the young people had the opportunity to take part in interactive elements. This included the presentation of urban trainees and students as well as an interactive quiz. The practical experience extended over several areas of the city administration, such as the Office for Road Traffic and Parking, the Tourist Information, the Citizens' Office and the Building Regulations Office. All of this was accompanied by experienced specialists who willingly answered their questions to the young people.
diverse insights and positive response
The division of the sexes among the participants was particularly remarkable: 37 girls sniffed green spaces and city service as well as the fire brigade. 52 boys received insights into daycare centers and youth clubs. All these activities helped reduce gender stereotypes and to encourage the participants to set professional course beyond traditional role models, such as emphasizes the city of Fulda
The response of the participants was consistently positive. Many praised the variety of professions and training opportunities that they got to know. Various training offers were shown, including:
- administrative assistant/r
- IT specialist for system integration
- educator
- construction draftsman
- gardener (gardening and landscaping, ornamental plant construction)
- fire champion
- car mechatronics engineer
- Geomatician
These initiatives aim to reduce gender differences in the choice of career, which is also supported by the data of the Education Report 2024. In recent years it has been shown that gender -specific differences still influence the equality of women and men in professional life. The Federal Center for Political Education indicates that girls in typical men's professions and boys in traditional female professions receive access to a broader spectrum of professional opportunities can.
