Help for the Gießen animal shelter: Donation brings hope and support!

The garden and landscape construction company Kaya from Lahnau recently handed over a donation of 2,000 euros to the Gießen animal protection association. The chairwoman of the animal welfare association, Astrid Paparone, thanked for this support, which should help the animals and the club of the shelter with its tasks. Harun Kaya, the company's owner, announced that it would continue to offer support in the future. The animal protection association Gießen is a member of the German Animal Welfare Association. Contact details of the animal protection association are: Vixröder Straße 16, 35396 Gießen, phone: 0641/5 22 51, email: info@tsv-giessen.de as well as on social media such as Facebook and Instagram.

The Gießen animal shelter faces major challenges. According to a report by Giessener-allgemeine.de, the shelter suffers from overcrowding and increasing costs for personnel, energy and veterinary care. The support of the city and the district is ideal, which means that the animal protection association feels as a supplicant. Animal welfare is considered a municipal obligation, but the financial means are not sufficient. The shelter has annual expenses of 654,000 euros, whereby 408,000 euros have to be generated.

concrete challenges and needs

The income from animal levies is not enough to work costs. While there are assignments to the supply of fund animals, grants from the city and district are missing. The animal shelter director, Hannah Wern, takes care of a Dachshund mixing, whose owner had to go to the women's shelter due to domestic violence. Taxing for animals are often high veterinary costs, excessive demands, lack of time or lack of interest. The veterinarian costs have risen sharply since the end of 2022, which further exacerbates the financial situation of the shelter.

In addition, the animal protection association calls for a bus stop on the country road to Buseck, which is currently being examined. The parking situation in front of the shelter is inadequate because an expansion is not possible. A requested speed limit in front of the shelter cannot be implemented due to the lack of legal requirements. Despite these challenges, the animal protection association continues to focus on the inclusion of animal welfare dogs from abroad.
