Life for Jan P.: The Ayleen case and his dark story
Jan P. will probably remain behind bars for the next two decades. The man, who murdered 14-year-old Ayleen in July 2022, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Gießen district court in 2024. Psychiatrist Hartmut Pleines, who appeared as an expert in the follow -up process, expresses little hope of a positive change in Jan P. and classifies him as highly dangerous and a candidate with a very high risk of relapse for sex crimes. This assessment throws a worrying light on the future of the convict and the security risk that he may represent for society.
The murder of Ayleen was not only cruel, but also sexually motivated. Jan P. had met and manipulated the student on the Internet. According to a trial, he had put her under pressure to send him nude photos. Ayleen was finally kidnapped and murdered 300 kilometers away in a forest in Hesse. According to the presiding judge Regine Enders-Kunze, the victim had "no chance". Jan P. strangled Ayleen and sank her body in a lake. She was found a week after her disappearance, and Jan P. was arrested on the same day when personal objects of Ayleen were secured in his apartment.
long -term danger and mental health
Pleines diagnosed Jan P. a dissocial personality disorder with psychopathic features and dissexuality. It also has a low IQ of 76, which has negatively influenced its social and emotional development. Already in kindergarten age there were social behavioral disorders that increased despite professional support. After over ten years in forensic psychiatry, no substantial progress in his personal development can be found, according to Pleines.
Another concern of concern is the pattern of dominance and manipulation in Jan P.'s relationships with women. Already in primary school age, his sexual development showed cross -border behavior. Pleines documents that Jan P. obviously sees women as objects and does not feel regret for his deeds. A colleague von Pleines had already found in 2007 that Jan P. showed indifference to legal norms.
relapse forecasts and social responsibility
The relapse forecasts for sex offenders are a complex topic. Studies have shown that instruments such as Static-99 and SVR-20 can provide useful indicators, but also lead to false-positive assessments. In many cases, these instruments have a significant, but not always precise predictive power. Especially with Jan P., the high risk of relapse, the Pleines and other psychiatrists, could be terrifyingly realistic.
The mayor of Gottenheim, Christian Riesterer, was relieved by the judgment and hopes that Jan P. will never be released. The renewed indictment against him, after showing an inappropriate behavior in the video call in June 2022 in front of a 13-year-old, illustrates the urgency of the topic.
The Federal Court of Justice confirmed the lifelong prison sentence, but an earlier conviction for child pornographic writings was set as too high. The public prosecutor in Gießen continues to work on the case to ensure that Jan P. fully served his punishment.
