Left party fights back: Hessen enthusiastic about the record of members!

The Bundestag election 2025 gave the Left Party in Hesse a remarkable comeback. The party achieved 8.7 % of the second votes in the state and 8.8 % nationwide. This is a strong increase compared to the state election a year and a half ago, in which the Left Party only received 3.1 % of the vote and thus left the state parliament. The Hessian top candidate Janine Wissler expressed that the party chose the right topics such as rising rents and food prices, which was particularly important to the voters.

Another highlight of the choice is the move in by Violetta Bock, a Kassel politician, to the Bundestag. Hermann Schaus, a former member of the state parliament, emphasizes the relevance of the topics with which the Left Party could score. He emphasizes that the party did not participate in the strongly polarized debate about migration, which was perceived positively in the electorate. The focus on social issues could regain voters who had turned away from the Left Party in recent years.

membership and internal dynamics

The Left Party in Hessen now records around 7,000 members - a doubling compared to before Christmas. This increase in the member inventory falls together with the break of the traffic light coalition and an application from Friedrich Merz to migration policy. In recent years, the party has addressed an increasingly diversified electorate, especially for women and young voters. Among the new members, the proportion of women in the Hessian parliamentary group is 75 %. For the 18- to 24-year-olds, the Left Party was the strongest strength and achieved 25 % of the votes.

Wissler, affected by internal disputes after moving to Berlin in 2021, has created a new dynamic by growing members and improving the survey values. This positive development should be considered in response to internal conflicts, especially after the break with Sahra Wagenknecht. With around 81,200, the Left Party has reached a record status that exceeds the previous maximum of 2009.

voting and local success

In the Hessian constituencies, the Left Party received at least 5 % of the votes in each district. Among the remarkable results are Marburg with 19 % and Gießen with 17.4 %. These successes are an expression of a growing interest in politics -related social consultation hours that the party now offers. Violetta Bock is convinced that this commitment has a sustainable influence on the electorate and increases the attractiveness of the Left Party, especially in rural regions.

In the nationwide perspective, the increase in members and voters shows that the Left Party remains an important voice in an environment of political polarization and potential legend in Germany. The increase in members of around 23,500 since the beginning of 2025 is an indication that many citizens have a strong interest in a socio -political opposition.
