Approach in Lollar: five fire within a few months!

In the Hessian city of Lollar near Gießen, another January 18, 2025 broke out a devastating fire in an agricultural court. The fire, which broke out in a machine hall on Saturday morning, follows a number of similar incidents on the property in the past few months. The police and the affected farmer assume arson, as there have been at least five fires in and around the buildings since September. The damage is estimated at around two million euros, whereby the machine hall is found due to the fire that it is at risk of collapse.

A fire in the hall had already been deleted on Friday. But on Saturday there was another incident in which a large column of smoke was visible. Ultimately, the fire brigade prevented the fire on adjacent living rooms and animal stalls, so that fortunately no people or animals were injured. There were machines and fertilizers in the hall itself, which is why the lower water authority was informed.

Development of the fire series

The fires initially appeared on surrounding fields, but then spread into a barn. If the fire had more than 120 burned hay bales, the local authorities now fear that the fire were laid with an evil intention. The farmer expressed that the fire were "cleverly arranged". It is also worrying that the animals were brought to safety in front of the fires, which further confirms the suspicion of deliberate arson.

The police have already started investigations and asks for evidence of witnesses. However, more information about the incidents is expected at the earliest in the coming week, which further increases the concerns of residents and farmers.

insurance situation according to the fire

In order to secure yourself before such incidents, insurance companies are of essential importance for many farms. The most common insurance companies that are taken out on agricultural companies are fire content insurance, building insurance and operating interruption insurance. Fire content insurance, for example, offers a quick replacement of agricultural capital after fire damage, be it for machines, animal population or stored grain.

The possibility of undersurance is often a problem, especially if the actual value of the inventory is higher than the agreed sum insured. In such cases, only proportionate compensation would be paid. Therefore, a complete recording of the inventory is essential to guarantee complete compensation in the event of damage.

In addition, it is important to comply with the correct safety regulations, especially in electrical systems, so as not to endanger insurance cover. Agricultural companies should therefore do without self -installations and take advantage of professional support.

The serial fires on the farm in Lollar not only throw a light on the security situation for agricultural companies, but also on the need for insurance measures and precautionary measures to avoid such damage.
