New commander of the Bundeswehr Central Hospital in Koblenz appointed!
Robert Schwab took command on February 16, 2025 through the Bundeswehr Central Hospital (BWZK) in Koblenz. This succeeds General Physician Dr. Diehm, who has largely managed the fortunes of the hospital in recent years. The ceremonial handover took place in a ceremony in Metternich, in which numerous soldiers took part and appeared in a panted field uniform. General Statabarian Johannes Backus officially handed over the command to Obersträt Robert Schwab, who will continue his work as a surgeon.
Robert Schwab, who already holds a variety of positions in the BWZK, will be handed over to the 20th commander of the house. His predecessor, general practitioner Dr. Diehm, leaves command after an impressive career that began in 1984 when he started the Bundeswehr. Dr. Diehm enjoyed extensive medical training at the universities of Gießen and Heidelberg and was active as a troop doctor and in foreign missions.
The outgoing commander
General doctor Dr. Diehm, born in Weinheim in 1965, took over the position as commander and medical director of the BWZK in 2022. This appointment fell together with the 65th anniversary of the hospital and was accompanied by a clear focus on working with the surrounding clinics in the Koblenz region. Under his leadership, the pilot project "Medical Campus Koblenz" was launched, which is scheduled to start this year.
In his farewell ceremony, the importance of training, further and further education of medical staff in military hospitals was particularly emphasized. General Statutrator Dr. Johannes Backus emphasized that such measures are crucial for the quality of medical care. The ceremony was supported by the Army Music Corps Koblenz, which gave the solemn occasion with musical accompaniment.
Schwab's vision for the future
Ober Dard Robert Schwab is now faced with the challenge of continuing the tradition and innovation of the Bundeswehr Central Hospital. His goal will be to further improve medical care and to look after the numerous patients annually. With his well -founded surgical training and his experience in various hospital functions, he is well equipped to keep a successful term.
The Bundeswehr Central Hospital Koblenz is not only an important medical location, but also an important part of the Bundeswehr, which works with local clini to ensure the best possible help and to increase the efficiency of medical services. Rhein-Zeitung reports that Schwab already as the clinic director of the general, visceral and thorax surgeon has made valuable contribution to the hospital.
The BWZK is still supported by a strong team of specialists and nurses who ensure that the medical services are optimally tailored to the needs of soldiers and their relatives every day. The focus will also be on regional integration in order to promote exchange and cooperation with other medical institutions, as is the case during Dr. Diehm was initiated.
