Record number of naturalizations in Hesse: 2024 breaks all borders!

In 2024,

Hessen recorded a record high for naturalization that has never been achieved before since the start of the recording in 2007. The introduction of multi -state in June 2024 contributed significantly to this increase and significantly increased the attractiveness of a German citizenship. Authorities from cities such as Darmstadt, Kassel and Gießen reported noticeable growth in both naturalization decisions and applications. In Darmstadt, the largest naturalization authority in Germany, over 20,000 naturalization decisions were made, 19,000 of which were positive. This represents the highest value for this city.

The total naturalization applications in Hesse achieved 28,882, which corresponds to an increase of 33 percent compared to the previous year and 250 percent compared to 2020. In Kassel, 3,714 decisions were identified, of which 3,363 were positive, and Gießen reported 2,972 decisions, of which 2,456 were positive. These figures illustrate a clear trend: more and more people, especially from third countries such as Syria, meet the requirements for naturalization.

prerequisites for naturalization

Naturalization in Germany is an important step for many migrants. This must be requested and is carried out by handing over a naturalization certificate. The basic requirements include a lawful stay of at least five years in Germany, proven identity and nationality as well as sufficient knowledge of German. The ability to make a living independently is also required. In order to make this application, documents are required that are transmitted to the responsible authorities.

The procedure for naturalization usually begins with the municipalities with more than 7,500 inhabitants or in the districts. After submitting the complete application documents, the process will be forwarded electronically to the responsible regional council for the examination. Here, too, it can be seen that the authorities have increasingly overloaded in recent months, which led to longer waiting times for the applicants. The advance of fees for naturalization is usually 255 euros.

The influence of multi -state

The changes in the right of nationality that came into force in June 2024 have significantly improved income due to multi -state. Structural reforms and the possibility of keeping previous citizenship have led to many people actively striving for German citizenship. This development not only benefits the individuals concerned, but also has a positive impact on society as a whole.

The 14th Integration Report of the Federal Government confirms that in 2023 with 194,000 people a historical maximum of naturalization was achieved. The reports show that the integration of migrants in Germany has made progress in many areas of life, even if there are still challenges in certain areas such as education. It should be emphasized that 69.2 percent of people with immigration history are employed, with two thirds working in qualified professions.

Developments in Hesse are part of a larger trend all over Germany, where measures to promote integration policy are increasingly in focus. This progression is supported by the planned diversity strategy and the introduction of the digital "Dashboard Integration", which enables interactive accessibility of the relevant data.
