Mourning for Ulrich Jung: Heuchelheimer Carnival fails in 2025!

On February 26, 2025, the Heuchelheimer Carnevalverein (HCV) will end the carnival season prematurely. The reason for this is the sudden death of President Ulrich Jung, who died on February 25, 2025. The association announced in a message that the campaign will be immediately discontinued out of respect for the deceased and its relatives. The popular carnival parade in Heuchelheim, one of the largest in the district of Gießen, does not take place this year.

The cancellation not only affects the traditional move, but also the large ceremonial meeting planned for the Rose Monday and the festive move on the carnival day. In addition, the HCV canceled its participation in the moves in Wetzlar and Gießen. This decision comes at a time when Carnival is traditionally celebrated in Germany, and some cities have already taken similar measures due to other circumstances - for example financial difficulties. So the carnival parade in Marburg was canceled, but for other reasons.

carnival celebrations in the region

The carnival, also known as a carnival or Fastnacht, is a widespread tradition in Germany that draws millions of people on the streets. The hot phase of the carnival typically begins on Weiberfastnacht, which falls to February 27 this year, and ends with the Veilchendienstag on March 4. The highlights include the magnificent moves and the possibility of escaping everyday life.

In the Gießen region, the Heuchelheim carnival parade is known for its elaborately designed cars with political and social allusions. The move has established itself as a popular highlight over the years and attracts numerous spectators. This makes the cancellation all the more regrettable for the community.

Preparations for the carnival with its diverse customs and traditions are an integral part of cultural life in many cities. It is also pointed out to the importance of costumes and regional culinary specialties that contribute to these celebrations.

The HCV informs its members and visitors that ticket buyers of the large splendor meeting can be contacted by email to info@hcvonline.de to apply for a refund. It is reasonably expected that the region will continue to think about the effects of this sad decision and the importance of Ulrich Jung for the local carnival celebrations in the near future.
