Road safety in Hesse: A quarter of the accidents in urban areas!

more than half of all traffic accidents occur in Hesse. In order to improve traffic safety, an information and discussion event from the Gießen district recently took place in the Limeshalle in Grüningen. Almost 40 listeners were present, mostly from regulatory offices and the regulatory police. The retirement engineer in Wolfram Mischer advises the district municipalities on traffic safety.

Traffic Director Christian Zuckermann (Greens) pointed out the "Livelihood Cities and Congregations" initiative during the event and emphasized the continuation of the "Vision Zero" strategy by the Hessian state government. This aims to allow neither killed nor seriously injured in road traffic.

statistics and measures to improve traffic safety

Last year 2839 people died in road traffic, while 366 557 were injured. In Hesse, the number of traffic fats is 188 and that of the seriously injured on 25 924. Zuckermann mentioned that inexpensive measures are quite possible to improve traffic safety. He also announced the new Hessian traffic safety concept 2035 (HSVK), which includes 57 measures to increase traffic safety, with a special focus on the protection of weaker road users such as children, seniors, pedestrians and cyclists.

Amazing 61 % of accidents in Hesse pass in town. In the meantime, 44 % of the injured and 26 % of the killed are also in the urban. The most common causes of accidents include turning, turning, crossing and crossing the street; A quarter of all accidents fall into these categories. Mixer therefore calls for a "preventive preventive" and refers to a judgment of the Federal Administrative Court that requires action when recognizing dangers. He advocates sustainable solutions and a change of perspective in traffic safety.

The Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) Reminds that the "Masterplan Vision Zero" was published in 2004 to improve traffic safety. This initiative has gained importance since then, but only a few measures were taken to reduce the number of traffic fatalities. From 2004 to the present day, almost 75,000 people died in Germany, while around 7.8 million people were injured. The number of injuries has stagnated since 2010, with around 365,000 injuries in 2023.

In 2022, 2830 people died in road traffic, which corresponds to about 8 daily traffic fats. The VCD is committed to the protection of all road users, especially for pedestrians and cyclists, and calls for speed limits of 30 km/h in town and a legal anchoring of the Vision Zero in road traffic law. In addition, a petition to reduce the size and weight of new car is initiated in order to further increase traffic safety.
