Theft series shocked: grave jewelry worth thousands of euros!

Unknown perpetrators stole grave decorations from copper in the night from January 22nd to January 23, 2025 in a cemetery in Mierendorffstraße in Ginsheim-Gustavsburg. So far, the Bischofsheim police have registered ten cases where grave shells and grave lights have been stolen. The property damage is estimated at around 4,000 euros. Relatives and possible witnesses are asked to report to the police. The telephone number of the Bischofsheim police station is 06144/9666-0, such as newsstadt.de

The thefts of grave jewelry are not an isolated case. A similar theft series was also observed in Munich. Here the police started a witness call after around 80 thefts of grave lanterns, vases, bowls made of copper, brass and bronze as well as crosses and angel figures were reported. The damage amounts to several tens of thousands of euros, such as Br.de reported.

The theft series in Munich, which began at the beginning of the year, focuses primarily on larger cemeteries such as the forest cemetery, Westfriedhof and Ostfriedhof. Smaller district cemeteries are also affected. The police have published photos of seized, presumably stolen objects to identify the owners concerned. Gravemists with larger crosses and bronze sculptures are particularly at risk. Relatives are warned and encouraged to provide criminal charges in the case of thefts.

In addition, a massive increase in thefts in Ingolstadt and the districts of Eichstätt, Neuburg-Schrobenhausen and Pfaffenhofen at the ILM was found, especially since the beginning of February 2024.

These are suspected of having stolen brass shells and resold to melt. The total damage in this region is estimated at over 30,000 euros. Up to 100 advertisements were received after a call to witness, and the police continue to identify to other perpetrators, such as
