The crime statistics show that thefts in Germany are a serious problem. In 2022 there were around 1.8 million thefts in Germany, which corresponds to an alarming increase of 20.0 percent compared to 2021. These worrying figures are part of a larger trend, as the police crime statistics 2023 shows, which has reported an increase in crimes recorded by 5.5 % for the past year to a total of 5,940,667 cases. This is the highest number of crimes recorded since 2016, as reported. reports.
The theft rate of the thefts in 2022 was only 30 percent, although the differences are considerable depending on the type of theft. The clearance rate for money thefts is only 7.9 percent, while it is 89.8 percent when shoppingfins are 89.8 percent. These sometimes sobering statistics highlights the challenges in front of which the police authorities are facing, especially with regard to the combating of street crime and burglaries.
In the police crime statistics, a striking increase in burglaries is also recorded. In 2023, the number of housing diesel theft rose by 18.1 % to 77,819 cases, although this value is still below the 2019 level. It should be noted that the increasing number of cases is partially caused by economic and social stress, which increase against the background of inflation and the consequences of the Covid 19 pandemic. The increase in immigration and mobility is also identified as factors of the increase.
