Financial crisis in the Bad Hersfeld Clinic: 120 million euros in danger!

The financial situation of the Bad Hersfeld Clinic is very tense. After the meeting of the Finance Committee, the UBL/Bürger-Herz Group reports that the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district cannot expect further federal or state grants. This was illustrated by a message from the Hessian Ministry of Health, which also includes a patronage and guarantee declaration. This declaration is responsible for all claims and obligations of the clinic until the new building has been commissioned, including operating costs for expected losses.

The district administrator confirmed that it was a coordinated document with the government president in Kassel. The decision of the district council is crucial, since the payment of 120 million euros in the event of a non-approval and the overall project could be at risk. It is estimated that the clinic will cause additional debts at least 80 million euros.

financial challenges and political criticism

Tim Schneider, the group leader, criticized financial planning as "completely disastrous" and demanded more transparency and care in decisions. The funding notice for the location concentration is to be made accessible to the members of the district council. However, the district administrator sees no way to give the decision for inspection and relies on GmbH law. There are also concerns that the district committee 2023 has granted the clinic to the clinic for loans, which should result in the approval of the district council.

Hessen supports the restructuring of the clinic with a total of 120 million euros from the hospital structure of II. Health Minister Kai Klose delivered the funding notice at a ceremony in the district office, in which numerous political representatives took part. Clinic Managing Director Rolf Weigel emphasized the long and difficult path to hand over the funding and the need for a sustainable concept.

a lighthouse project for the region

The district administrator described the planned new clinic building as a "lighthouse project". This is intended to establish new medical processes and at the same time offer contemporary medicine. The full project includes numerous modernized areas, including a large emergency center, a central emergency room, an operating room area, an interdisciplinary intensive care unit as well as four care stations and radiology. The central emergency room becomes a contact point for medical emergencies with optimized patient control.

Minister of Health Klose declared the project to be the largest hospital project in Hesse. Comprehensive digitization projects and the use of techniques such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality are also planned. A total of 636 beds will be available in the future, which is an increase compared to the previous 560 beds. The financing is one third by the state of Hesse, the federal government and district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg.

context of the hospital reform

The tense economic situation of many hospitals in Germany is addressed by the recently decided hospital reform. This reform aims to make the clinic supply future -proof by ensuring high quality of the clinic treatments and reducing bureaucracy. Without this reform, clinic insolvencies and bad treatments threaten, which in turn could result in longer journey through the hospitals.
