Stolen bank found in the forest after two days!

In Sterkelshausen, a wooden bench was stolen from a popular viewpoint last weekend. Walkers noticed the loss on Saturday when they passed the usual place. A short time later, the mayor Tim Jürgensmeier received a reference to the theft from concerned citizens. During a review, he found that the bank was still in its place on Friday.

Two days after the theft, on Monday, the bank was rediscovered about 1.5 kilometers on a forest path. Scraps on the bank indicate that it was loaded onto a trailer and being removed. Despite the circumstances, Jürgensmeier has no concrete suspicion of who could have stolen the bank. However, he suspects that it is a local person who knew exactly where the bank was and could quickly remove them.

Return of the bank

Richard Deppe, the deputy of Jürgensmeier, expressed the conviction that the pressure to bring the bank back must have been significant. After all, the bank had not been purchased until 2022 by the Sterkelshäuser Dorfverein to make the hiking trails in the area more attractive. The purchase of the three benches, which together cost around 1000 euros, was funded by the regional budget of the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg.

While the other two benches on the donor head and on the Hüppel still have their place, the stolen bank has now been successfully brought back to its original location on the Kreuzhecke. The Rotenburg police were informed about the incident and announced that such thefts in the district were unusual. There is currently no further case of this kind that employs the police authorities.

The incidents related to the wooden bank are not only important for the village community, but also raise questions about security and the protection of public institutions. As the bank's return shows, however, the commitment of the citizens and the authorities is strong when it comes to preserving and protecting community goods.
