emergency and evacuations

The weather warnings of the German Weather Service show the severity of the situation: they pointed out strong thunderstorms, floods as well as hail and lightning damage, especially in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Even if the warnings were lifted later in the evening, the risk of subsequent thunderstorms and gusts of wind remains.

in Suhl, Thuringia, and Westerburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, blocked overbrewed trees. There was an interruption at the “Rhein in Flames” festival in Bonn due to the weather. The clean -up work is in full swing, with hundreds of helpers being in use to eliminate the damage.

The regions in Central Hesse were particularly badly affected, where two young men were injured when a tree fell on their car. In Trier, on the other hand, a driver was caught after a tree crown fell on two cars and he had to be taken to the hospital. In Fulda, a fallen tree blocked the entrance of a hotel, so 60 guests could not escape until the fire brigade removed the tree.

missions and additional damage

Deutsche Bahn reported route closures due to fallen trees. In Hesse, the federal road between Philippsthal and the borders to Thuringia also had to be closed for dirt. Firefighters needed protection against verbal attacks during their missions.

In Lauterbach, roof tiles were torn down from a building, which damaged a parked car, and an alarm had to be triggered in a primary school in Alsfeld after a lightning strike took place. The fire brigade in Mainz was more than 20 times in action, and in Schwabenheim ceiling parts were secured that had become loosely through water.

Another example of the damage is burning incidents in Gau-Algesheim and Alzey, where a triggered lightning strike led to a scaly and garden hut fire. The festival program for the Thuringia Day in Gotha also had to be interrupted for about 15 minutes due to the weather.

The weather conditions in Germany remains tense. While the weather conditions in the Alps present themselves as rainy, snow is increasingly expected in higher locations. Meteorologists warn that a maritime polar air could influence the weather conditions in the low pressure area over northern Italy in the medium term. Frost warnings affect the north and the middle of Germany, as wetterfahren.de describes.

The situation remains dynamic, and the population is asked to keep up to date with the weather reporting in order to recognize possible dangers at an early stage.
