Hesse relies on sustainable nutrition: volunteers!

The service center for nutritional initiatives (SEE) in Hessen actively promotes voluntary work in regional nutrition projects. In 2024, a total of 14 projects with the support of the was successfully implemented, the projects range from the production of apple juice to the care of community gardens and the offer of cooking courses for primary school children.

was founded in June 2023 by the Research Institute for Biological Landbau Germany e.V. (FIBL) and receives its financing from the Hessian Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (HMLU). In the first year, 212,000 euros and 235,000 euros were available for 2024 to support various voluntary activities.

The funded projects include the construction of raised beds, the organization of lunch tables for the solo lives and the creation of information films via Hessian agriculture. Two short films of the Bional association explain exciting aspects of composting and regional agriculture.

A special focus on the project "From apple to the juice", in which school children are offered the opportunity to press apple juice from apples of orchards. In addition to these practical projects, the SEI also offers advice on the foundation of the association, on project ideas and funding applications.

The applicants for the funding in 2024 were diverse and included food councils, including working institutions, school support associations as well as environmental and nature education associations. The funding for the projects was between 500 and 20,000 euros. For 2025, new projects are already being planned, which should also be received by the support.

The one ensures that high -quality foods and sustainable supply structures are funded in the region. Various initiatives are supported for this, including kindergartens, plates, consumer initiatives for solidarity agriculture and urban garden projects.
