Baumgarten brings Faust to the Staatstheater Kassel with a new vision!
On February 22, 2025, the staging of "Faust" according to Hector Berlioz ’" La Damnation de Faust "celebrates its premiere at the Kassel Staatstheater. The well -known director Sebastian Baumgarten returns to this central place of work after over 20 years. From 1999 to 2002 he was head of the head and deputy opera director, which makes his return particularly remarkable.
Baumgarten deals with the devil pactor Doctor Johann Faust, an important topic in European cultural history. In his staging, Faust is shown as an artist type and failing intellectual in the turmoil of war times. Berlioz’s work, which exceeds genre boundaries between opera, oratorio and choral information, is also enriched by a combination of acting, dance and electronic music.

Under the musical direction of Kiril Stankow, the ensemble brings well -known actors to the stage. Eric Laporte embodies the fist, Filippo Bettoschi will be seen as Méphistophélès. Ilseyar Khayrullova plays the Marguerite, while Don Lee appears in the role of Brander. Annett Kruschke is committed as an actress and Safet Mistele and Einav Berkovich will be seen as dancers.
For those interested, there is also the possibility to take part in a public stage orchestra test, the so-called “Sneak in”, on February 17, 2025 before the premiere. Entry costs 8 euros. Further performance dates are on February 26, 4 and 9 March (4 p.m.), March 21, March 29, April 6th and 15th, as well as on May 23 and June 5th.

Baumgarten, known for his work at large German -speaking stages, has also realized significant directorial projects such as Mozart's “kidnapping from the Serail”, Strauss ’“ Rosenkavalier ”and Wagner's“ Parsifal ”in the past.
