On March 22, 2025, Maila Appel, a talented 11-year-old student of the Erich Kästner School in Baunatal-large, competed in the Hessian state youth championships in Calden. Her impressive performance in the field of versatility brought her and her team an excellent 4th place among 20 teams and a total of 100 participants. Maila, the youngest of the event and the only girl from Baunatal, trains hard: six days a week, including running and swimming.
Maila convinced in the competition in various disciplines. She completed 50 meters swimming in 48 seconds, received 5.0 points in dressage and ran 2 kilometers in 11:33 minutes while running. In addition, she scored 6.0 points in jumping with a jump height of 80 cm. In the individual ranking she reached 13th place in the mix group.

The Maila team consisted of talented athletes: Carlotta Bansa (14), Lia Mentel (13) and Katharina Eydt (16). In this competition, which took place under the strict guidelines of children's athletics, the teams of the Kassel Kassel district and country proved to be strong competition and in the E-Class the team from Schwalm-Eder won the Hessian championship of the A-Class, followed by the team from Kassel.
The child's lighting athletics, which has replaced the previous competition system since 2013, promotes team spirit, which is why success can only be achieved in the team. This form of development also offers young athletes the opportunity to show their talents in various disciplines such as running, jumping and throwing. A simple set of rules and the orientation towards child developments promote the fun and versatility in sport.
North Hessian championship of athletes
In parallel to these successes, the North Hessian championship of athletes took place in the Vierkampf of the U 12 in the Park Stadium in Baunatal. The boys of the LG Gensungen took the 2nd place with 5283 points. Particularly noteworthy is Nico Bergen, who achieved the 4th place in the four -way battle of the M 11 with 1338 points, including an impressive time of 8.17 seconds over 50 meters.Additionally cut off Kiara Schleider (MT) in the four -way battle of the W 11 and landed in the 5th place with 1440 points after jumping 3.72 meters in the long jump. In the team classification, TSV Remsfeld secured the 2nd place with 6403 points and the ESV Jahn Treysa was third with 6027 points.
These competitions are part of a new competition system that aims to offer children challenges and recognition in a joint environment.
